Dry Bags

There is always a chance of rain at Philmont! Have you ever been on the trail, soaking wet without any dry clothes to change into? If you just answered yes, you know how miserable it is. If you answered know, take our advice and don’t let yourself get into that situation!

The best way to make sure your gear stays dry is to pack it in waterproof bags. If you are on a budget, 2 gallon freezer bags work well. Just make sure you carry extras because they will tear a holes and stop being waterproof after just a few days of use. If you can afford purchasing Dry Sacks, DO IT! They are worth it!

Depending on how you organize your gear, you will probably need 3-7 bags. It does not matter what you pack your gear into to waterproof it, as long as you make sure it is organized. When you are living out of your pack for any period of time, you don’t want to have to pull everything out just to find your toenail clippers, do you? Pack like items together! Pack all your shirts together, all your pants and shorts, underwear and socks, dirty clothes, and dirty socks. If you are using freezer bags, double or triple your dirty socks bag.
