The further out you book your flight, the less expensive it will be. Your crew should not spend too much time deciding that they are Driving or taking the Train. Once you have settled on flying, start booking tickets! There are 3 airports near Philmont. You will need to arrange for overnight accommodations either near the airport or in Cimarron, and for transportation to Philmont.

The 10 Commandments of Flying to Philmont:

  1. Thou shalt have a form of identification, obtainable at your local Motor Vehicle Department
  2. Thou shalt have have Government Issued Photo Identification if over 18.
  3. Thou shalt arrive at least 3 hours before your flight takes off to allow for unexpected problems.
  4. Thou shalt place all knives in checked baggage.
  5. Thou shalt not have strike anywhere matches on the plane or in checked baggage.
  6. Thou shalt ship your stoves and fuel bottles and not risk confiscation by the airlines.
  7. Thou shalt check all persons and carry on bags for items prohibited on the plane.
  8. Thou shalt place your backpack into a nylon bag to protect it and keep it together.
  9. Thou shalt not label luggage with duct tape, instead label with luggage tags on all luggage.  Include your Name, Expedition # and Philmont’s address: 47 Caballo Rd. Cimarron, NM 87714.
  10. Thou shalt not open sealed food before the security checkpoint, for so it will not be confiscated.
