1. Who can go?

Any registered member of the Boy Scouts of America (man or woman) who is at least 14 years old OR is 13 and has completed the 8th grade may participate in a expedition at Philmont.

Each crew must have a minimum of:

• 2 Adult Advisers, at least one adviser must be over 21 years old.
• Coed Venture crews must have coed Adult Advisers, all over 21 years old.
• 7 members including Adult Advisers.

Each crew may have a maximum of:

•  4 Adult Advisers, at least one adviser must be over 21 years old.
• 12 members including Adult Advisers, special permission has been granted for crews of 13.

Each crew member must be:

• Within Philmont’s height/weight regulations and must have a valid physical examination.
• Capable of carrying 30 to 70 pounds of equipment for extended duration.
• Able to hike 3 to 10+ miles a day (depending on the itinerary you select).
• Capable of following directions and instructions from Philmont staff members.

Please note that someone who is over 18, but under 21 may be considered either an Adviser OR a Youth depending on your crew’s needs.
