Fire Starter

Obviously, each crew at Philmont will need a way to start a fire at the end of the long day of hiking. Philmont doesn’t really have a preference as to whether you use matches or a lighter, but each crew will have a community fire starter supply. Each ounce is precious when you’re on a Philmont trek, so every Scout in the crew won’t have their own materials.

The most important thing is to keep your lighter or matches in an absolutely waterproof container. If your fire starting materials get wet, it could be a long, cold, and miserable couple of days!
