Sleeping Clothes

We spend one third of the day, 8 hours, sleeping. This doesn’t change when you’re on the trail. When you are in bear country you want to make sure you don’t attract any bears to you, especially while you are sleeping. Always have a set of sleeping clothes that you store in your sleeping bag. Only wear these at night. This will keep any food that you may have gotten on your clothes without knowing out of your tent. It will also keep your sleeping bag clean and warmer. If dirt gets into your sleeping bag, it will break down the fibers inside of it and cause heat that was kept in to escape.

Everybody sleeps different. Wearing non-cotton long underwear at night is the best way to keep your sleeping bag clean and stay warm. If you are usually cold at night you will want to wear a pair of clean socks and a stocking cap or beanie. Try to store all of your sleeping clothes inside of your sleeping bag. Doing this will keep them clean, dry, and more importantly make sure you know where they are.
